Asbestos attached to husband's clothes, suit alleges

CHARLESTON - A Kanawha County man has filed an asbestos suit, claiming his wife died because of asbestos exposure from his clothes.

Stanley Kenney filed the lawsuit May 17 in Kanawha Circuit Court for himself and for the estate of his deceased wife Margaret.

He lists 18 defendants.

"Margaret Kenney came into contact with and inhaled asbestos dust and fibers that were on Stanley Kenney's work clothes as a result of his working with and around asbestos-containing products," the complaint says.

West Virginia companies McJunkin Corp., Vimasco Corp. and UB of West Virginia are three of the defendants from which Kenney is seeking compensatory and punitive damages.

Kenney worked at an Owens Illinois Glass Co. plant in Kanawha County. His wife died Jan. 12.

Attorney Geraldine Guerin of James Humphreys and Associates filed the lawsuit. It was the 11th asbestos suit filed by Humphreys and Associates in a week.

A visiting judge will be assigned the case.
