Woman says maintenance men aided in robbery

CHARLESTON - A Charleston woman says her apartment was broken into by someone pretending to be her.

Natalie Tennant filed the lawsuit July 6 in Kanawha Circuit Court and is representing herself. She is suing Charleston Housing, Mark Taylor and Kenny Powell.

The plaintiff apparently is not the Natalie Tennant who is a former local television anchor and candidate for West Virginia Secretary of State.

The plaintiff says a woman posing as herself gained access to her home and stole $110 on Feb. 2, 2005. She is seeking $7,000 from the defendants for violating Charleston Housing policy.

"The after-hours maintenance allowed someone posing as me into my dwelling," the complaint says. "The man on duty said that he checked the ID but the description of the person did not match me."

Nevertheless, she says, the maintenance men unlocked her door.

"The person that came into my home stole $110. I was charged $55 for the maintenance crew to open the door for the other person," the complaint says.

Tennant, who lives on Seventh Ave., also wants the locks changed on her door.

Judge Jennifer Bailey Walker has been assigned the case.
