Woman says she was injured at hospital

MORGANTOWN - A Monongalia County woman says she slipped and fell on a puddle of water at Monongalia General Hospital.

Debra Jefferys is seeking damages in a lawsuit she filed Sept. 27 in Monongalia Circuit Court against Monongalia Health System and Monongalia County General Hospital Co., both doing business as Monongalia General Hospital.

A puddle of water that collected on the floor is the alleged culprit.

"The defendants had actual or constructive knowledge of condition… on the said premises," the complaint says. "Said conditions posed an unreasonable risk of harm to Plaintiff Debra Jefferys, and said Defendants negligently failed to exercise reasonable care to prevent the conditions from arising and negligently failed to exercise reasonable care to reduce or eliminate the risk or to warn Plaintiff of the condition."

Jefferys says she has suffered injuries to her head, neck, back, arms and legs while incurring medical expenses and pain of body and mind.

She also says she suffered a diminution in the capacity to enjoy life, aggravation and distress and has been deprived from engaging in her normal pursuits and activities.

Husband Roger says he has lost consortium with his wife and seeks compensatory damages.

Amy Swisher of Curry and Swisher and Fairmont is representing the Jefferys.
