CHARLESTON - The estate of an Oak Hill man has filed an asbestos suit against several defendants, alleging they all had a hand in his death.
Martha Sydnor, executrix of the Estate of Richard Sydnor, filed the suit Dec. 4 in Kanawha Circuit Court. She is represented by Brian Calandra of Michigan law firm Mazur-Kittel.
The suit names 30 defendants and charges that Richard Sydnor's lung cancer was caused by exposure to asbestos. Sydnor died Dec. 29, 2004.
The complaint adds that he worked as a laborer from 1956-76 at various places.
From 1956-62, the complaint says he worked in Cleveland at Pneumo Abex Corp. Then Sydnor moved on to Midland Ross, also in Cleveland, from 1960-69. Finally, the complaint says he worked at Mansfield Tire and Rubber from 1969-76, "where he was routinely exposed" to asbestos and asbestos-containing products.
The lawsuit seeks compensatory and punitive damages.
A visiting judge will be assigned the case.
