Prominent Charleston attorney passes

CHARLESTON -- Well-known attorney Jim McIntyre died Wednesday at the age of 77.

McIntyre helped start the Charleston Legal Aid Society more than 40 years ago and also began serving on then-Mayor Kemp Melton's five-person civilian police review board in 1998. That same year, at age 68, he appeared in "Inherit the Wind," performed onstage by the Kanawha Players.

He graduated from George Washington University and was admitted to the West Virginia Bar Association in 1954. Through the years, he represented organizations, like the United Mine Workers, and former mayor Mike Roark, who went to prison on federal drug charges.

He is survived by two sons and two daughters.
