Kanawha man sues Dunbar nursing home

CHARLESTON - A Kanawha County man, on behalf of his deceased father, has filed a suit against a health care facility in Dunbar.

Robert A. Taylor filed the suit Dec. 28 for his father, Ralph A. Taylor, who was a patient at Sunbridge Dunbar, as of Jan. 13, 2005.

Taylor says after his father was admitted he was "negligently, recklessly, carelessly and wrongfully treated" and as a result was irreversibly injured.

The suit states the treatment at Sunbridge "violated the standard of care and treatment ordinarily exercised and ... was a proximate cause of his personal injuries." It also states the elder Taylor was treated is such a way for an extended period of time.

Taylor claims the negligent of the facility employees caused his father "physical injury and the loss of a limb" as well as other pains and sufferings.

"The acts of the defendants were outrageous in that they offend the generally accepted standards of care to be rendered to patients entrusted to them," the suit states.

Taylor is seeking judgment for compensatory and punitive damages and trial by jury.

The suit also names Sun Healthcare Group, Inc. and employee Carol Southall as defendants.

The case has been assigned to Judge Irene Berger.
