Putnam woman says Kmart's faulty doors injured her

CHARLESTON - A Putnam County woman is suing the Scott Dept Kmart after she says a visit to the store caused her serious injury.

Margaret Chrislip was visiting the store Feb. 23, 2006, when the automatic doors she was going through malfunctioned, struck her and caused her to fall.

She is suing Sears, Roebuck & Company, the parent company of Kmart, and Teresa Boley, saying they "have a duty to provide reasonably safe and suitable premises."

Chrislip suffered injury to her knees, numerous fractured ribs and contusions all over her body and incurred medical expenses of $18,552, and will incur future expenses, has endured pain and suffering, both in the past and in the present, has sustained a permanent injury, impairment of her capacity to enjoy life, both past and present and will continue to do so.

Chrislip seeks compensatory damages from Kmart and Boley as well as pre- and post-judgment interest, attorney fees and further and general relief.

The case was filed by attorney Tony L. O'Dell and has been assigned to Judge Tod Kaufman.
