Pa. woman sues Wheeling Jesuit after fall

WHEELING - A Pennsylvania woman has filed a suit against Wheeling Jesuit University because she fell on the property of the school and injured herself.

Lauren J. Lief, of Washington County, Pa., fell on ice and snow that had accumulated on the grounds of the school, and broke her left leg and ankle. The suit claims she has incurred medical and hospital expenses totaling more than $20,000.

In addition to her medical expenses, her mother also had to provide nursing care. Lief's injuries are permanent and caused her to suffer great pain, as well as financial burdens and loss of enjoyment of life, the suit states.

The suit claims that the school is negligent because the grounds were not properly maintained, and the ice and snow was not promptly removed.

Lief is seeking judgment in the amount of $225,000 and demands a trial by jury.

The case was filed Jan. 22 by Lief's attorney, Robyn Ruttenberg. The case has been assigned to Judge Martin Gaughan.
