Former employee sues city of Montgomery

CHARLESTON - A Fayette County man has filed a lawsuit against the City of Montgomery, claiming he was wrongfully fired from his city job.

Scotty Short filed a case Feb. 15 in Kanawha Circuit Court, claiming he was fired from his job as a mechanic for the city because of his age. At the time of his termination he was 61.

Short was employed by the city for 21 years and was fired while on medical leave.

The suit claims the city's action was wrongful because the street commissioner fired Short so he could hire a relative.

Short, who is representing himself, seeks damages for considerable monetary losses, including loss of wages and income, medical coverage, pension benefits and continuing employment.

The case has been assigned to Judge Duke Bloom.
