Woman says Sears responsible for her injuries

HUNTINGTON - A Kentucky woman has sued Sears after she claims she was injured while visiting the retailer's location at the Huntington Mall.

Janice Layne filed a suit April 4 in Cabell Circuit Court against Sears, Roebuck and Co. According to the suit, Layne was in the store April 7, 2005, when she tripped over a two-inch platform used to display vacuum cleaners, injuring her knees and a leg.

Layne claims the platform was negligently placed and unmarked. According to the suit, she sustained pain and suffering and was humiliated.

Layne seeks compensation for her losses and damages sustained.

John R. Mitchell is Layne's attorney, and the case has been assigned to Judge David Pancake.
