Elderly woman blames South Charleston, rec center for fall

CHARLESTON - A Kanawha County woman filed a suit against a South Charleston recreation center after she was injured while at the center for a water aerobics class.

Olive White filed a suit April 12 against the City of South Charleston and the South Charleston Community Center. Also named as defendants in the suit were the South Charleston Recreation Corporation and South Charleston Recreation Center.

According to the suit, White was going to a water aerobics class at the community center on June 16, 2005, when she fell and was injured.

The suit says the center was negligent because it failed to provide assistance to White, an elderly patron with physical disabilities and limitations. The suit also says assistance entering and exiting the pool was not provided.

White, through attorney Andrew A. McQueen, seeks compensatory damages against the defendants, as well as court costs.

The case has been assigned to Judge Jennifer Bailey Walker.
