CHARLESTON - A Kanawha County man has filed a suit against a his former employer, claiming he was fired because of his age.

Stephen W. Vanhoose filed a suit April 17 in Kanawha Circuit Court against Bayer Cropscience LP and Gary Payton, the supervisor of the local branch of the company.

Vanhoose was employed by Bayer Cropscience for a substantial period of time, the suit says. He claims that while an employee, he performed his job duties well and met all expectations. However, in April 2005, he was fired.

Vanhoose claims he was fired because of his age, which is a violation of the West Virginia Human Rights Act. According to the suit, Vanhoose has suffered and will continue to suffer a loss of wages, embarrassment, humiliation and emotional distress.

Vanhoose, through attorney Michael J. Del Giudice, seeks punitive damages in an amount to be determined by a jury as well as court costs.
