WHEELING - A Belmont County, Ohio woman has filed a suit against Wheeling Hospital, claiming she was fired as a nurse due to retaliation from a physician.
Carol Rife filed a suit May 2 in Ohio Circuit Court against the hospital, where she worked for more than 30 years.
Rife was fired in June 2006, weeks after she allegedly registered complaints regarding negative work conditions. According to the suit, one of the complaints stemmed from an incident with one of the OB/GYN physicians.
After the incident, Rife went to a member of management to register her complaint, but the said physician allegedly intruded and disrupted the meeting.
Rife was fired less than two months later. Rife claims she was fired as part of retaliation for filing complaints. She claims another reason was her age, as she had been working at the hospital for more than 30 years.
Rife, through attorney Nicholas A. Wininsky, seeks compensatory and punitive damages.
The case has been assigned to Judge Martin Gaughan.
