CHARLESTON -- Kanawha County Magistrate Kim Aaron has participated in the "Robes to Schools" program by reading to 753 students in a dozen Kanawha County schools.
In January, West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals Chief Justice Robin Jean Davis invited all statewide active and retired justices, circuit judges, family court judges and magistrates to make regular appearances in West Virginia schools.
The Court hopes this program will continue to enhance instructional time. Not only did Aaron read or tutor in the classroom, but was open to questions regarding the court system.
"I took Chief Justice Davis' directive seriously and gained more from this experience than anyone could ever imagine," Aaron said. "I enjoyed every minute spent with the students and I hope to continue reading and tutoring students when school restarts in August.
"Volunteerism is alive and well in West Virginia!"
On June 6, Aaron read to 39 students at Robins Elementary on the day before classes ended for the summer.
Before that, she read this semester to students at Chesapeake Elementary, Sharon Dawes Elementary, Kanawha City Elementayr, Nitro Elementary, Lakewood Elementary, Pinch Elementary, Ruffner Elementary, Grandview Elementary, Cedar Grove Elementary, Elk Elementary and Cross Lanes Elementary.
