CHARLESTON - A wrongful death and medical malpractice suit was filed against a Dunbar nursing home by the family of a man who they claim died from negligent care while a resident at the facility.
Tammy Rae Combs filed a suit May 30 in Kanawha Circuit Court, on behalf of Ray Combs, who died while a resident at Sunbridge Care and Rehab.
The suit names the home as a defendant, as well as Sun Healthcare Group Inc., the national corporation that owns the Dunbar home.
According to the suit, Ray Combs entered the nursing home on April 1, 2004, and lived there until Dec. 25, 2005. The suit states he suffered many personal injuries and damages while living there, which ultimately caused his death on Jan. 31, 2006.
The suit says Combs entered the home at the age of 77, with dementia. While there, he was inflicted with several injuries, including "pneumonia; dehydration; pressure sores; multiple fractures; malnutrition; contractures; loss of weight; and death," the suit says.
Tammy Rae Combs claims the negligence of the staff at Sunbridge caused the injuries.
In the ten-count suit, the family of Ray Combs claims medical malpractice, negligence and fraud. They seek general, specific and punitive damages.
Attorney Michael J. Fuller is representing Combs. The case has been assigned to Judge James Stucky.
