Woman sues medical center, city for fall in alley

CHARLESTON - A Kanawha County woman filed a suit against a local medical center and the City of Charleston after she fell in an alley maintained by the city and the center.

Janet Stone filed a suit June 19 in Kanawha Circuit Court against West Virginia University Physicians of Charleston and the city.

Stone claims she was walking June 25, 2005, in an alley on MacCorkle Avenue -- which is maintained by the medical center and the city -- when she inadvertently stepped in a hole.

According to the suit, Stone was seriously injured and incurred medical expenses of more than $93,420 and continues to incur expenses.

Stone seeks compensatory and punitive damages against the West Virginia University Physicians of Charleston and the City of Charleston.

Attorney Michael Turkaly is representing Stone. The case has been assigned to Judge James Stucky.
