Mechanic sues after on-the-job fall

HUNTINGTON - A Putnam County man has filed a suit against a tire and auto center in Barboursville.

Ronal E. Courtney Jr. filed a suit June 13 in Cabell Circuit Court against BFS Retail and Commercial Operations.

According to the suit, BFS has a tire and auto center near the Huntington Mall, where Courtney was employed as a mechanic/technician.

Part of Courtney's job duties entailed repairing and replacing wheels and tires on trucks and automobiles.

While performing his job requirements June 15, 2005, Courtney slipped and fell on a wet surface while carrying a large tire, injuring his back, neck and shoulder.

According to the suit, at that time there was a large amount of water in the work area due to inadequate drainage, causing an unsafe work area.

Courtney seeks compensatory damages for his injuries. He is being represented by attorney Thomas Plymale.

The case has been assigned to Judge John L. Cummings.
