Man says St. Frances Hospital responsible for mother's death

CHARLESTON - A Kanawha County man has filed a wrongful death suit on behalf of his mother, who died due to an injury blamed on St. Frances Hospital.

Floyd Beasley filed the suit July 2 in Kanawha Circuit Court against Harrell Nursing Home, doing business as Meadowbrook Acres Nursing Center, St. Frances Healthscope and Lester Labus, M.D.

According to the lawsuit, Jean Loretta Beasley was injured after an atrial fibrillation, cerebrovascular incident that resulted in complications and, ultimately, her death.

Floyd Beasley claims the defendants failed to properly monitor his mother and treat and evaluate her from October 2004 to June 12, 2005. He claims his mother suffered physical pain and suffering, emotional distress, medical expenses, loss of ability to enjoy life, and ultimately, her life, on June 30, 2005.

Floyd Beasley, individually and as the executor of his mother's estate, seeks compensatory and punitive damages.

Attorney David L. White is representing Beasley. The case has been assigned to Judge Jennifer Bailey Walker.
