Mountain State ranks last in Forbes' Best States For Business

CHARLESTON -- West Virginia slipped to dead last in the annual Forbes.com list of Best States For Business.

The Web site released its rankings last week, and the Mountain State fell from 49th to 50th. Louisiana was last in last year's rankings.

Forbes.com used six categories to determine its list. West Virginia didn't fare better than 25th in any of the categories.

West Virginia ranked 25th in business costs, 29th in economic climate, 46th in quality of life, 49th in labor and 50th in both regulatory environment and growth prospects.

Neighboring states fared better.

Virginia topped the list again, and Maryland was ranked 12th. Ohio, Pennsylvania and Kentucky were 38th, 39th and 41st, respectively.
