Four families file asbestos suit against Vimasco

CHARLESTON - Four families have filed a joint asbestos lawsuit against Vimasco Corporations, a Nitro facility, seeking damages for their injuries.

Attorney Scott Segal filed the suit July 27 in Kanawha Circuit Court on behalf of Clellie N. Maddox and his wife, Norma; Donna Jo Crago, as the executrix of the estate of Donald W. Rensi; Lowell L. Sharp; and Junior E. Stewart.

The suit also names Owens-Illinois as a defendant.

According to the suit, Clellie Maddox, Donald Rensi, Lowell Sharp and Junior Stewart all suffer from asbestosis and lung cancer. Rensi is deceased.

The suit claims the men all inhaled asbestos dust while working at various jobsites and locales. The men claim they did not know of the dangers associated with asbestos and were not properly protected.

Each man claims he suffers from a lung injury, which has already allegedly resulted in the death of Rensi.

According to the suit, each plaintiff suffered damages for medical expenses, embarrassment and inconvenience, loss of earning capacity and loss of enjoyment of life.

In the nine-count suit, the plaintiffs seek compensatory and punitive damages.

The case has been assigned to a visiting judge.
