HUNTINGTON - A Cabell County woman has filed a medical malpractice suit against a nurse practitioner at St. Mary's Medical Center who she claims did not take proper precautions during the delivery of her child.
Stephanie McCloud filed a suit July 23 in Cabell Circuit Court against Klara Kovacs, MS-CFNP and Mitchell Nutt, M.D., the physician who was responsible for McCloud.
According to the suit, McCloud had a history of post-partum hemorrhaging, yet there was no physician present when the child was born April 12, 2005. Kovacs was present for the delivery and immediate follow-up care.
At about 8 a.m., McCloud continued to have significant bleeding and Nutt performed a total hysterectomy. McCloud continued to require blood transfusions because of the hemorrhaging.
McCloud claims the doctor and nurse violated the reasonable standard of medical care and skill when they were evaluating and treating her.
McCloud claims that because of Kovacs' and Nutt's negligence, she has suffered a loss of ability to bear children, as well as great pain and suffering, annoyance and inconvenience, emotional distress, loss of consortium and medical expenses.
McCloud, through attorney Paul M. Stroebel, seeks compensatory damages, attorney fees and court costs.
The case has been assigned to Judge John L. Cummings.
