Texas couple files asbestos suit in Charleston

CHARLESTON - A Texas couple that formerly lived in West Virginia filed an asbestos lawsuit against 39 companies.

Theodore and Nancy Alderman filed a suit July 27 in Kanawha Circuit Court against several companies, claiming Theodore Alderman was exposed to asbestos on the job and is now ill because of the exposure.

According to the suit, Alderman worked as a pipefitter for Union Carbide from 1957 to 1990. During his employment, he claims he was exposed to asbestos and now suffers from mesothelioma.

Alderman claims the companies were negligent by manufacturing, producing, selling and using products that contained asbestos.

Nancy Alderman also claims she suffered a loss of services, society, companionship and consortium from her husband.

Together, through attorney William K. Schwartz, the Aldermans seek compensatory and punitive damages.

The case will be assigned to a visiting judge.
