Woman blames theater for injuries after fall at movies

CHARLESTON - A Kanawha County woman filed a suit against a local theater after she fell and was injured while going to see a movie.

Leoda Harris filed a suit Aug. 13 in Kanawha Circuit Court against Park Place Cinema 7. According to the suit, filed by attorney Michael Clifford, Harris was at the theater on Sept. 22, 2005, when she fell.

Her fall resulted in a torn Achilles tendon and a torn lateral meniscus.

Harris claims she had to seek medical treatment and incurred medical bills. According to the lawsuit, she also suffered mental anguish and permanent injury, annoyance and inconvenience, all of which are permanent in nature, including permanent diminutive use of the lower extremities.

The suit also says the theater is at fault because of several Charleston Building Code violations, including keeping the risers in repair.

Harris seeks unspecified compensation for her injuries.

The case has been assigned to Judge Louis Bloom.
