Woman broke foot during swim class, sues YMCA

HUNTINGTON - A Cabell County woman has filed a suit against a local gym after she broke her foot during a swim class in the pool.

Jan Wright filed a suit Oct. 5 in Cabell Circuit Court against the YMCA, located on Tenth Avenue in Huntington.

Jody Parker of Huntington was the instructor of the swim class and is named as a defendant.

According to the suit, on Oct. 13, 2005, Wright went to the YMCA and was in the pool during her adult swim lesson.

"While (Wright) was standing in the pool with the instructor, another female swimmer came swimming towards (Wright) and negligently crashed into her left side, causing serious and permanent injury," the suit says.

Wright claims the collision caused her to fracture her left foot and other injuries.

According to the suit, the YMCA is negligent by failing to implement a lookout to prevent injuries by people using the pool.

Wright claims she is suffering great pain of body and mind. She claims she still requires medical care for her injuries.

Wright seeks compensatory and punitive damages.

Attorney Michael L. Glasser is representing Wright. The case has been assigned to Judge John L. Cummings.
