Inmate sues DOH after he was injured on work crew

CHARLESTON - An inmate at a state correctional center has sued the state Division of Highways after he was injured while on a work crew.

Jack L. Poland filed a suit Nov. 20 in Kanawha Circuit Court against West Virginia Department of Transportation, Division of Highways.

Poland is an inmate at the Ohio County Correctional Center. He was assigned to a work crew with other inmates, under control of the DOT.

While working clearing brush, Poland was injured when a tree became lodged. The attempt to remove the tree resulted in various injuries to Poland.

Poland claims the DOT is negligent by failing to properly supervise the work crew or provide proper equipment.

Poland seeks compensation for his injuries and damages.

Attorney Larry O. Ford is representing Poland. The case has been assigned to Judge Jennifer Bailey Walker.
