CHARLESTON - A Lincoln County man has filed a medical malpractice suit against a local hospital after he developed pressure ulcers during his stay.
James E. Ryan filed a suit Nov. 21 in Kanawha Circuit Court against Charleston Area Medical Center. Vada Ryan is also named as a plaintiff in the case.
Ryan was admitted to the hospital Feb. 2, 2005, to receive nursing and medical care.
During his stay, he developed "severely debilitating pressure ulcers upon his person," the suit says. According to the suit, Ryan's injuries were due to the negligent care, custody, supervision and control of the hospital.
James Ryan claims he suffered pain and suffering, embarrassment, humiliation, emotional distress, increased disability, disfigurement and scarring, hospitalization costs, rehabilitative costs, and other damages.
Vada Ryan claims she suffered costs and loss of consortium of her husband.
Together, the Ryans seeks compensatory and punitive damages.
Attorney Roger D. Williams is representing Ryan. The case has been assigned to Judge Jennifer Bailey Walker.
