Kanawha assistant prosecutor charged with obstruction

CHARLESTON - A Kanawha County assistant prosecutor has been charged with obstruction when he refused to cooperate with a police officer.

Scott Reynolds was charged after he did not tell an officer who crashed his car into a telephone pole, the criminal complaint states.

Reynolds' 2002 Chevy Trailblazer was found in Clarksburg on Nov. 10, wrecked on the side of the road. According to the complaint, no driver was on the scene when the police arrived.

However, Reynolds arrived on the scene about 15 minutes later and a Clarksburg officer asked him about the driver of the vehicle.

"(Reynolds) kept stating that the driver had a couple of drinks and was just supposed to go get a pack of cigarettes and come back," the complaint says.

Reynolds said he was out for a walk, saw the lights from the accident and was surprised to see his car smashed into the pole.

He continued to refuse to cooperate with the investigation and indulge the name of the driver.

A clear drinking glass that smelled of alcohol and ice cubes were found in the car.

Reynolds was arraigned and released on a $2,500 bond.

Reynolds was twice convicted of drunken driving in Ohio, in 1995 and 1996. He was sentenced to serve 90 days in jail, 80 of which were suspended. He was also fined $400 and paid $186 in court costs.
