CHARLESTON -- Charleston attorney Anita Casey has been named the first female executive director of the State Bar.
Casey will replace Tom Tinder, who is going to manage the State Bar's foundation.
Casey was named Tuesday by the State Bar's board of directors.
She has practiced civil defense law in Charleston for the past 25 years. She currently practices at MacCorkle, Lavender, Casey & Sweeney.
According to the firm's Web site, Casey received her law degree in 1982 from West Virginia University's College of Law.
She was a founding member of her current firm in 1999. She is admitted to practice law in West Virginia, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of West Virginia, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
Casey's profile also says she has received certification as a mediator from Duke University's Private Adjudication Center and that she has conducted hundreds of mediations and arbitrations, both in her private practice and as a panel member for United States Arbitration & Mediation; Resolute Systems Inc.; JAMS/Endispute; and Justus/MANA.
In addition to mediations and and arbitration, her profile says she has an active trial practice with a recent heavy concentration in the areas of bad faith, coverage, and insurance litigation.
