CHARLES TOWN - A Maryland man has filed a suit against a West Virginia nightclub after he was shot in the neck while trying to stop a robbery in the parking lot on Christmas.
Christopher Young filed a suit Dec. 18 in Jefferson Circuit Court against Ranson Golden Horseshoe Inc. and owners James and Linda Sullivan.
Danielle Renee Thomas-James and John Doe are also named as defendants.
According to the suit, Young was visiting the club Dec. 25, 2005, when he allegedly saw Thomas-James and John Doe robbing two people in the parking lot. Young went to the aid of the people when Thomas-Jones shot him in the neck.
The suit says the robbers then fled in a car owned by the other victims.
Young claims the Sullivans owed his a duty to exercise care to keep and maintain the premises in a reasonable safe condition, including providing proper security and protecting the parking lot.
According to the suit, Young's earning capacity has been impaired and he can now only work a very limited schedule. He has incurred hospital, rehabilitative, medical and other expenses.
Young seeks compensatory and punitive damages.
Attorney Stephen G. Skinner is representing Young.
