Mother sues Ohio Co. school board after son injured in attack

WHEELING - An Ohio County woman filed a suit against the county Board of Education after her son was seriously injured when he was attacked by another student.

Dawn Hanna filed a suit Dec. 18 in Ohio Circuit Court against the BOE and Timothy Hammers, on behalf of her son, Richard Hall.

According to the suit, Hall was an eighth grade student at Wheeling Middle School in December 2005. On Dec. 22, 2005, Hall participated in a basketball practice with his fellow students during regular practice hours.

Hanna claims her son was attacked by Timothy Hammers at that practice, and was physically injured.

According to the suit, Hall suffered injuries to his head, neck, shoulders, back, chest, arms, legs, body chemistry and psyche.

Hanna claims her sons injuries caused annoyance, aggravation, inconvenience, embarrassment, physical pain, mental and emotional anguish and the diminishment of his ability to fully function, perform academic studies and enjoy life.

Hanna claims the school had the responsibility to provide a safe environment for her son and failed to provide that.

In the four-count suit, Hanna seeks compensatory and punitive damages.

Attorney Shane M. Mallett is representing Hanna.
