CHARLESTON - A woman who is an outpatient at a local mental health facility filed a suit against the company after she was injured when a chair she was sitting in broke beneath her.
Charlotte Walker filed a suit Jan. 16 in Kanawha Circuit Court against the Prestera Center for Mental Health Services Inc.
According to the suit, Walker participated in the outpatient mental health program. She was at the Charleston Prestera location Feb. 21, 2006, when her chair broke, "causing her to be thrown to the floor and to be injured," the suit says.
Walker claims she suffered several injuries, including a rotator cuff tear on her left arm. She claims Prestera failed to provide a properly maintained and safe chair, and failed to inspect the chair she was using to ensure it was suitable to be set in.
Walker seeks compensatory damages for her injuries, plus interest and court costs.
Attorney Larry O. Ford is representing Walker. The case has been assigned to Judge Charles King.
