Man says country club employee sexually harassed him

CHARLESTON - A Kanawha County man filed a suit against a local country club and one of its employees, claiming he was the victim of homosexual sexual harassment.

James McCoy Lane filed the suit Jan. 29 in Kanawha Circuit Court against Berry Hills Country Club and Chris Whalen.

According to the suit Lane worked at the club from February 2007 to May 2007, when he claims he quit because of the harassment and propositions from Whalen, who was his supervisor.

Lane claims Whalen repeatedly asked to go on a date with Lane, requested to perform oral sex on him, and other propositions during regular work hours.

According to the suit, Berry Hills Country Club should have known about Whalen's actions and taken steps to investigate his background. Lane also claims the club failed to properly supervise Whalen.

Lane claims he suffered emotional distress and lost wages because he was forced to leave his job.

Lane seeks to be compensated for the injuries and abuse he sustained.

Attorney Michael T. Clifford is representing Lane. Judge Jennifer Bailey Walker has been assigned to the case.
