Woman sues Food Lion over fall at grocery store

CHARLES TOWN - A Jefferson County woman has filed a suit against a grocery store after she slipped in a puddle of water and broke her leg.

Barbara and George Baker filed a suit Feb. 12 in Jefferson Circuit Court against Food Lion.

According to the suit, Barbara Baker was shopping at the Shepherdstown Food Lion on Oct. 26, 2007.

While walking between the checkout and the food aisles, she slipped on a puddle of water and fell, fracturing her left tibia and fibula. She required medical care and went to the hospital. While there, she fell again and sustained a hip fracture.

Baker claims the store owed her a duty to maintain their premises in a reasonably safe condition.

George Baker claims he has been deprived of the society, companionship and services of his wife.

The Bakers seek judgment in an amount to be determined at trial.

Attorney Harry P. Waddell is representing the Bakers.
