HUNTINGTON - A recent lawsuit filed by an Ohio man against a local printing company has been moved to federal court from Cabell Circuit Court.
Michael Allen Brown of Lawrence County, Ohio, filed a suit against Chapman Printing Company on March 11 claiming the company is responsible for an injury he sustained. The suit was moved to U.S. District Court Southern District of West Virginia on May 13.
The removal notice states that the case is expected to exceed $75,000 in damages.
Brown was an employee of Chapman Printing in March 2006 when he was allegedly ordered to work on and repair the Heidelberg Speed Master, a printing press. Brown claims that while he was working on the machine, his supervisor intentionally turned on the press.
His hands were caught in the rollers of the machine, thus crushing his hand, the suit claims. Brown claims Chapman Printing knew the Heidelberg posed a safety threat and owes him punitive and compensatory damages.
Chapman also filed an answer to Brown, denying all charges and seeking to have the case dismissed.
