Woman sues bar after drunk patron fell on her, knocking out teeth

CHARLESTON - A Kanawha County woman has filed a suit against a local sports bar after her front two teeth were knocked out when an intoxicated patron fell on top of her.

Ebony Richmond filed the suit June 4 in Kanawha Circuit Court, against Minxx Sports Bar and Grill, Inc and John Doe Jewitt.

Minxx is located in St. Albans. Richmond claims she was a patron there on May 16 and during the early morning hours of May 17, 2008.

"Ms. Richmond was at the bar when an intoxicated man, John Doe Jewitt, passed out and collapsed on Ms. Richmond," the suit says. "The fall broke Ms. Richmond's two front teeth, which required extensive dental treatment and will require treatment in the future."

Richmond claims Minxx served Jewitt an excessive amount of alcohol, and continued to serve him alcohol after he became visibly intoxicated. Richmond claims the harm she suffered was foreseeable to any reasonable person at Minxx.

Richmond seeks compensatory and punitive damages to cover her injuries.

Attorney Eric B. Snyder is representing Richmond. The case has been assigned to Judge Duke Bloom.
