W. Va. businesses harmed by fake letters, McGraw says

McGraw

CHARLESTON - State Attorney General Darrell McGraw continues to keep an eye on what goes in the mail.

McGraw said Wednesday that a bogus business selling hand washing posters is sending letters to other businesses around the state.

The business, West Virginia Food Service Compliance Center, is sending letters titled "Requirement for all Food Establishments."

"These deceptive letters are harming the small business community," McGraw said. "Some businesses purchased these posters to comply with a law that does not exist."

The letters claim that failure to purchase a poster will result in civil penalties.

Two months ago, McGraw warned West Virginia businesses that fraudulent letters printed on McGraw letterhead were wrongly telling them that they were being investigated by his office.
