Kanawha woman sues after dog attacked her

CHARLESTON - A Kanawha County woman filed a lawsuit against the owner of a pit bull after the dog attacked her.

Gloria Koontz filed the suit June 11 in Kanawha Circuit Court against Evetta Kessel.

Koontz was at Kessel's house Sept. 15, 2006, when Kessel's dog, which had been allowed to run unsecured on the property, "viciously" attacked her, court papers say.

Koontz claims she was bitten on the face.

After the attack, Koontz received medical and surgical treatment. She claims she suffered expenses for medical care and attention.

Koontz claims she has been caused loss of ability and capacity to enjoy life and potential loss of income. She seeks compensatory and punitive damages.

Attorney William W. Pepper is representing Koontz. The case has been assigned to Judge James Stucky.
