Woman says she was assaulted, injured at CAMC

CHARLESTON - A Kanawha County woman has filed a suit against a local hospital, claiming she was assaulted by a patient and injured when she slipped in the bathroom.

Gloria Kinney filed a suit June 19 in Kanawha Circuit Court, against Charleston Area Medical Center, Inc. Kinney was a patient at CAMC General on Jan. 18, 2006.

According to the suit, she was admitted to a semi-private room where she was assaulted by a patient in an adjacent bed. After, when Kinney attempted to go to the bathroom, she slipped on water, urine or some other liquid, causing her to fall and be injured, the suit says.

Kinney claims CAMC failed to insure that the bathroom floors were free of fluids and failed to insure her safety while she was on medication and unable to fend for herself.

William Kinney, Gloria's husband, claims he suffered loss of consortium, loss of wifely services and has been required to tend to his wife, take her to medical appointments and suffered great annoyance and inconvenience.

Attorney Michael T. Clifford is representing the Kinneys. The case has been assigned to Judge Jennifer Bailey Walker.
