Man says he was fired from Marriott because of his nationality

CHARLESTON - A man who claims he was fired because of his national origin has filed a suit against the company that fired him, claiming it violated the West Virginia Human Rights Act.

Jayaprakash Alagarsamy filed the suit Aug. 1 in Kanawha Circuit Court against Marriott International Inc. and Joseph Lorosso.

According to the suit, Alagarsamy was employed at the Charleston Town Center Marriott in downtown Charleston for more than eight years. He says he was fired from his job at the Marriott on April 11, 2008.

Alagarsamy claims he was fired at least in part because of his national origin. He claims that is a violation of the West Virginia Human Rights Act.

According to the suit, Alagarsamy claims he is entitled to back pay and an award for emotional distress, embarrassment and mental anguish. He also seeks punitive damages.

Attorney J. Michael Ranson is representing Alagarsamy. The case has been assigned to Judge Charlie King.
