Lawsuit filed over Morgantown hit-and-run

MORGANTOWN – A Morgantown family is suing a woman over a hit-and-run involving their daughter.

Brittney C. Whiting and her parents, Vicki D. and Willie B. Edwards, filed a lawsuit April 21 in Monongalia Circuit Court against Junique Morris.

The lawsuit says Brittney was in the crosswalk at the intersection of High Street and Fayette Street in downtown Morgantown on April 4 when Morris, driving a Toyota Rav 4, ran a stop light and hit Brittney.

The complaint says Morris then left the scene.

Brittney was severely and permanently injured, the complaint says. The plaintiffs claim her past and future medical bills will likely be in excess of $100,000.

The plaintiffs are seeking compensatory and punitive damages and legal costs from Morris.

Dino S. Colombo is representing the plaintiffs.
