CHARLESTON – A Kanawha woman says a mini-storage company allowed water to creep into a space she rented, causing nearly $11,000 in damage to her belongings.
Debra Brooks filed a lawsuit May 21 in Kanawha Circuit Court against Capitol Mini Storage.
Brooks says from July 2007 to Feb. 2009 she rented a storage space from the defendant's facility on Kanawha Turnpike.
The plaintiff says she paid $100 a month to rent the facility and has paid $2,000 in rent to the company over the years.
On Feb. 25, Brooks says she paid the balance on the debt she owed the defendant and went to retrieve her property.
Brooks says she discovered that her belongings were damaged from water and mold. She estimates the damages at $10,666.
The plaintiff seeks compensatory damages and legal costs.
Michael J. Del Giudice is representing the plaintiff. The case is before Kanawha Circuit Judge James Stucky.
