Woman sues video store over fall

CHARLESTON – A Hugheston woman is suing a video store there after she says she fell off an unmarked step in the parking lot.

Juanita Mullins filed a lawsuit May 20 in Kanawha Circuit Court against Video Village LLC.

Mullins says she was a customer at the Hugheston Video Village on January 10, 2008.

According to her complaint, as she was leaving the store and heading for her car, she fell over an unmarked stop and was "thrown to the ground."

Mullins claims she suffered injuries to her knees, side and right shoulder.

The lawsuit says Mullins was first taken to Charleston Area Medical Center before being transferred to Healthsouth in Huntington on Jan. 14.

Mullins says she wasn't released from the hospital until Jan. 29, racking up $34,023 in medical bills.

She's seeking compensatory damages and associated legal costs.

Mark E. Wills is representing the plaintiff. The case is before Kanawha Circuit Judge Louis Bloom.
