Best Buy sued over falling merchandise

CHARLESTON – Electronics giant Best Buy is the target of a lawsuit filed by a Putnam County pediatrician, who says she was injured by falling merchandise.

Debra Parsons of Hurricane filed a lawsuit July 3 in U.S. District Court against Best Buy Stores, headquartered in Minnesota.

Parsons claims she was Christmas shopping at the Best Buy in Barboursville Dec. 21, 2007.

The lawsuit says two Best Buy employees had stacked computers, electronic equipment and a chair on a cart. The objects were stacked seven feet high and were not secured, the lawsuit says.

While the employees were pulling the cart through the aisle where Parsons was shopping, the load fell on top of her, striking her neck, back, shoulder and ribs, the complaint says.

Parsons is seeking compensatory damages.

C. Benjamin Salango is representing Parsons.
