Poca man says bar bouncers facilitated his beating

CHARLESTON -- A Poca man says he was lured outside by bouncers at a Cross Lanes bar only to be beaten up.

Eric Douglas Patton filed a lawsuit July 2 in Kanawha Circuit Court against Bobby's Bar and Grill, bar owner Bobby W. Massengill, Dustin Workman, Kurt Pettit, John Does 1 and 2, Charles Stevenson and Rob "Doe."

Patton says that on July 5, 2008, he and two friends went to the bar. He claims that after getting there, he struck up a conversation with Workman.

Stevenson and Rob "Doe" were bouncers at the bar that night and directed Patton and Workman to leave the bar, the complaint says. The bouncers escorted the two outside where Patton said he was attacked by Workman, Pettit, the John Does and the bouncers.

Patton says he was left outside beaten and disoriented. So far, he claims his medical bills stand at about $100,000.

He's seeking compensatory and punitive damages.

James M. Pierson is representing the plaintiff. The case is before Kanawha Circuit Judge Irene Berger.
