Woman sues hospital for negligence in mother's death

HUNTINGTON -— A woman is suing Cabell Huntington Hospital for negligence after the death of her mother.

Ronda C. Brown, administratrix of the Estate of Jean Ferguson, claims Ferguson was admitted to the hospital to undergo heart ablation and implantation of a pacemaker on Aug. 20, 2007.

Ferguson was treated by various nurses, technicians and other healthcare professionals and personnel at the time, according to a complaint filed in Cabell Circuit Court on Sept. 21.

Brown claims the employees negligently and carelessly failed to properly monitor Ferguson while she was in the heart catheterization lab and negligently failed to observe that she went without a heart rate for three minutes.

Brown also claims that while Ferguson was in the intensive care unit, they failed to properly monitor and assess her regarding the neurovascular status of her right leg after ablation and implantation of the pacemaker.

According to the suit, as a direct result of alleged negligence, Ferguson was permanently damaged and injured and suffered conscious pain, extreme mental anxiety and horror up until the time of her death of Sept. 15, 2007.

Brown is suing for incurred medical, drug and hospital expenses of approximately $200,000, funeral expenses of approximately $10,000 and for a sum to compensate her for damages and injuries. She is being represented by Frank M. Armada.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge David M. Pancake.
