Man sues Shoney's after mouth cut by object in food

CHARLESTON -- A Charleston man is suing Shoney's after he injured his mouth while eating food from the buffet.

Edward Peters-Jordan was a customer at Shoney's and was eating a plate of food from the buffet when he felt something stab the inside of his mouth, according to a complaint filed Oct. 29 in Kanawha Circuit Court.

Peters-Jordan claims he found a piece of either glass or plastic that had been in his food.

According to the suit, Peters-Jordan became ill and experienced vomiting twice. He claims he went to St. Francis Hospital.

Later, Peters-Jordan discovered an abnormal growth in his mouth and sought treatment at Charleston Area Medical Center.

Peters-Jordan claims he suffered a cut in the upper pallet of his mouth; sickness and illness; vomiting; and mouth injuries.

Peters-Jordan is suing for compensatory and punitive damages.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Tod J. Kaufman.
