Former police officer sues Ceredo for wrongful termination

WAYNE -- A former police officer is suing the City of Ceredo for wrongful termination of his employment.

Chester Maynard was a police officer in Ceredo and on July 2, suffered a work-related injury, according to a complaint filed Nov. 20 in Wayne Circuit Court.

Maynard claims he filed a workers' compensation claim and was given a release from work, but on July 6 the Chief of Police, Jack Butcher, fired him due to the work-related injury.

According to the suit, the defendant breached its duty of reasonable care to Maynard and wrongfully terminated him.

Maynard is seeking compensatory damages for negligence, wrongful termination/retaliatory discharge, negligence infliction of emotional distress and violation of municipal police protection. He is being represented by James R. Akers II from Akers Law Offices.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Darrell Pratt.
