Woman sues Go-Mart after falling on ice patch

CHARLESTON -- A woman who injured herself when she slipped and fell on an ice patch is suing Go-Mart for failing to clear the ice from its parking lot.

In Jan. 21, Tammy J. Bishop walked to Go-Mart to purchase some groceries when she slipped and fell on ice in Go-Mart's parking lot, according to a complaint filed Dec. 11 in Kanawha Circuit Court.

Bishop claims Go-Mart failed to properly light and maintain its property in a reasonably safe condition and failed to remove the ice buildup within a reasonable amount of time.

According to the suit, Bishop fractured her left distal tibia and plafond fracture; incurred extensive costs and expenses associated with medical services; has suffered permanent loss of function; lost wages; and suffered pain and loss of enjoyment of life. Her medical expenses cost approximately $23,068.04.

Bishop is seeking for compensatory damages for her medical expenses. She is being represented by Henry E. Wood III of Wood Law Office.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Irene C. Berger.
