Wayne County man sued for setting fire to building

WAYNE -- A Wayne County man is being sued for intentionally starting a fire at the Wayne County Community Service facility.

The West Virginia Board of Risk and Insurance Management and the Wayne County Community Services Organization are claiming on Jan. 30, 2008, John M. Stanley started the fire at the building, which was previously Buffalo High School, according to a complaint filed Jan. 8 in Wayne Circuit Court.

The plaintiffs claim the fire caused damages to the building in the amount of $56,039.99. Stanley agreed to pay $2,500 in mitigation of the damages, but is still indebted to the plaintiffs in the amount of $53,539.99.

The plaintiffs are seeking damages in the amount of $53,539.99 with pre- and post-judgment interest. Attorney General Darrel V. McGraw and Thomas W. Smith are representing them.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Darrell Pratt.
