Woman sues jail authority, two officers for sexual harassment

CHARLESTON -- A woman is suing two correctional officers, the West Virginia Regional Jail and Correctional Facility Authority and an unknown person for sexual harassment, abuse and assault.

Crystal Kinzer was incarcerated in the Southern Regional Jail and claims during her incarceration she was sexually harassed, sexually abused and sexually assaulted by C.O. Gillespie and C.O. Grimes, according to a complaint filed Jan. 27 in Kanawha Circuit Court.

Kinzer claims the defendants conduct was reprehensible, willful and wanton, malicious and in blatant and intentional disregard of her rights.

As a result of the defendants, Kinzer claims she has suffered anxiety; humiliation; annoyance and inconvenience; invasion of privacy; emotional distress; pain and suffering; mental anguish; and loss of her ability to enjoy life.

Kinzer is seeking compensatory and punitive damages for negligence. She is being represented by Matthew J. Woelfel and Kerry A. Nessel.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Paul Zakaib Jr.
